FIRE CHIEF:  RONALD MERTZ


Chief Ron Mertz has been a resident of Cridersville his whole life, 54 yrs. He not only was raised here but remained here after getting married to his wife of 33yrs Elaine and they raised their 3 daughters here as well.  Ron is a second generation Fire Chief with his Grandfather holding that position in the early 1900’s. 


Ron has been with the department since 1973, and has held several officer positions including Lieut, Captain, and Asst. Chief till in 2001 he was named Chief.


Ron holds certificates in Firefighter, EMT-B, Advanced Arson Investigator, Mass Casualty Incident, Industrial Fire Prevention & Brigade, MCTO 1 &2, Incident Command, HAZ-MAT Awareness & Operations, and IS 100,200,300,700, & 800

   To continue to be "THE PREMIER" volunteer fire department in Northwest Ohio, by advancing through Technology, Training, and Innovation. To fulfill our MISSION, we will employ skilled individuals committed to continuously improving their ability to discover and satisfy the needs of our citizens in an innovative, safe and ethical manner.

The Cridersville Fire Department is an ALL VOLUNTEER Department with its roots dating back to 1856; It is operated by 47 dedicated men and women who believe in the protection of life and property in Cridersville and Vicinity. The current Station was built in 1953 with 3 major renovations and additions since.
